When writing a list, it’s best to focus on a specific niche, subject or topic as your readers will have hit upon your list for a reason. Whether your My Top 10 list is aimed at promoting particular products and services, or just features something you know alot about, the more targetted your Top 10 list is, the better the results will be. For example, take a look at this Satellite Navigation Systems Top 10 which reviews some of the hottest SatNav products currently on the market. It targets a particular product range, focuses the readers mind onto which SatNav product might be best for him/her and also helps to direct the reader to a reputable place on the web where they can purchase the products too.

An essential for maximising your exposure to the Big search engine such as Google.com, Yahoo.com and MSN Search . The plugin is easy to set up, just click the Meta Tags link in the Add Plugins panel in your dashboard to turn this feature on. Then hit the Settings tab, and then click Meta Tags.

There’s full instructions there on the page to help you get started but essentially, you need to do the following:

Description : Right a short, couple of sentences about your Top 10 list. Focus on your Lists subject and don’t use lots of surplus wording like “Check out my list it’s the greatest…”. Keep that focused too… something like “Satellite Navigation Systems reviews. We take a look at the latest SatNav products on the market.”

Keywords : This should be a list of actual keywords that you use in your post, each separated by a comma. So something like…

satnav, satellite navigation, portable satnavs,

Advanced Stuff : If you fancy getting a bit smarter with your Meta Tags, you can even specify different meta tags for each individual post too, which can give you even better results in Search Engines.

Affiliate Programs: Yep… you’ve slaved away, writing entries for your lists… Well, how about we go make some money from your efforts? There are literally thousands of affiliate programs out there that you could promote on your list. You could place banners in your Top 10 list, link to individual products that you review on your list, offer complimentary products and services… The opportunities are endless!

When you create and populate a new list, we will love and cherish your handywork and place a link to you on our front page, on which you’ll stay for a while… But, other than that, you need to get visitors to your list, and you need to show the Search Engines that your site it worthy of some Love too, so why not link to your list from your MySpace pages, Facebook profiles, other blogs and other websites?

Makes sense doesn’t it!

Simply link to your Top 10 lists main URL… e.g. http://digitalcameras.my-top-10.co.uk/

The more links you have coming in to your list, the better!

Who said you couldn’t have more than one list? Not me! If you’re feeling creative, why not create several lists on similar or indeed totally different subjects… Whatever takes your fancy, if you know a bit about the subject, or you just wanna wing it, give it a go.

There is no limit to the number of Top 10 lists you can create, but all we ask is that you don’t go ahead and create 100’s of empty lists with the idea that you’ll have time to develop them all over the coming weeks… We all get busy and we all have things on our to-do lists that never seem to get done, I know I do, so please keep the number of empty blogs to a minimum. We reserve the right to remove unused Lists in order to free up popular sub-domains for other users, so be warned… Obviously, if you post some decent stuff on your list, it’ll stay there forever!

Personalize your Top 10 list a little by adding a List Avatar. This can be a pic of yourself, your pet, anything you like… But nothing rude please!

Add A List Avatar

To add an Avatar to your list, got to Settings in your Dashboard, then click List Avatar and follow the instructions to upload your pic, (jpeg or gif). Don’t worry about resizing it, you’ll get chance to crop and resize it after you click upload!

To make it show, you’ll need to activate the Avatar Widget… To do that, just hit the link “This Widget” in the Add An Avatar panel on the main dashboard.

Add the ShareThis plug to your list now from your List Dashboard. Just click the ShareThis link in the Add Plugins panel to activate it.
